Princess Kate. Princess You.

I have to admit that I am loving this royal wedding buzz. I think it is a nice break from natural disasters and war on the news. I didn’t get up at 4 AM to watch but I did set my DVR. I love guilty pleasures. Plus, both of my sisters and my best friend are getting married soon so I am going to be a bridesmaid three times in the next six months. Needless to say, weddings are on my mind.
Also, what girl hasn’t dreamed of being a princess?
It got me thinking about us busy women trying to do it all without an entire team of folks helping us out. Can you imagine being a princess and having a chef, someone to do your laundry, a driver, someone to watch the kids, a personal trainer… maybe even a health coach! Side note: Should I reach out to Kate to see if she needs my help? Maybe see if she wants to follow my blog? 🙂
The more I think about it, there are many little things that make me feel special, like royalty every single day. I think the trick is just realizing it. Just last night, I went upstairs to get ready for bed and my amazing husband left me a note on my pillow saying how much he loves me. I felt like a princess for sure.
So, how can you feel like royalty?
Be Confident. It is utterly important that a queen be confident, as she must rule a kingdom. Be yourself. Love your own skin. Rule your own life. You are your best expert.
Take Care of Yourself. A queen is someone of high stature, and as such she must also have excellent personal hygiene. Go ahead and get that mani and pedi! Also, cook yourself some “real” food. We’ll be making some yummy Japanese food and raising some cash for those in need. Oh yeah!
Play Dress Up. The other day I came down stairs and my father-in-law said, “Oh, are you going out? You are dressed up.” Out of the blue I put on a fun, flirty sundress instead of my normal running pants and t-shirt. When you look like royalty, you will feel like royalty.
Talk Yourself Up. Tell yourself every day that you are royalty and something special. This helps build your self confidence, which is extremely important if you want to feel like a queen.
Practice Your Smile and Wave to Your People. Smiling just makes you feel better, doesn’t it? I was taking Charli for a long walk the other day and I ran into a few new neighbors. We are new to our neighborhood and this warm weather is finally letting us get out and explore. I made a point to smile and say hello to everyone I met. It felt good.
Practice Proper Posture. Part of acting like a queen means you are elegant, and part of elegance is gracefulness and posture. This is one I struggle with. I even had to go to the chiropractor to get adjusted. Carrying a heavy baby and a heavy bag for 16 months has wrecked havoc on my neck and shoulders. When I do sit up straight it does feel better. Plus, you look more confident.
So, what makes you feel like royalty?

  1. A little girl on the elevator this morning told me I am not wearing my princess dress today. I told I just save that for Saturdays when I see my Prince.
She seemed to like that. Or maybe she thought it made up for my boring work outfit.
Her cute little comment made my day! 🙂
