How to make a great welcome to the neighborhood gift basket

February 1, 2016 by Betsy Leave a Comment

If you ever wondered how to make a great welcome to the neighborhood gift basket, well, here are my ideas. We recently got new neighbors and I wanted to do something fun to welcome them.

They moved in a few days before the huge snowstorm hit the Northeast so I wanted to give them something useful since they would be snowed in for a few days. I went with food and cleaning supplies! I figured they would be cleaning their new place and of course, food says welcome like nothing else.

Keep it inexpensive. You don't have to break the bank to put together a welcome basket. I went to the clearance section at Marshall's (my favorite store!) and found an adorable basket with a chalkboard attached to it (I think I paid $3). I wrote "Welcome" in white chalk. I added some of our favorite cookies and chocolates (I know, all store bought. If I had more time, I would have baked! Maybe, even a batch of my pumpkin cinnamon pancakes).

Include some home items and some snacks. I added some yummy smelling dish soap and a candle. (Both from Marshall's clearance section.) Food always make people smile especially during snow storms when you are stuck indoors. Next time I may include some fresh fruit.

Add personal touches. I included a photo of the four of us with our names written on the back. I printed these adorable square prints right from my Instagram using Social Print Studio (enter to win a $60 gift code to order some of your own!) Remember, when neighbors are moving in, learning everyones name is a job. Make it easy for them and give them a photo. Also, include your address on the back. That way, they remember what house is yours. I also included a handwritten card welcoming them to the neighborhood and telling them a little about us. Make it light and fun!

Have fun creating a welcome to the neighborhood basket when you get new neighbors. Make it your own.
