One of my favorite snacks as a kid was a toasted cheese sandwich with Miracle Whip. One of my favorite sandwiches was turkey lunch meat smothered in mayo.
There really is something special about a creamy dressing on a crunchy salad or sandwich. It just makes it better. I get it. The more I study food and meal preparation I am learning how successful meals are all about mixing different textures. Creamy with crunchy for example. The problem with the store bought dressings are that they are loaded with fat and calories and processed crap. Ok in moderation but not something I want to eat on a daily basis anymore.
Tahini is where it’s at these days. Never heard of it? No worries. Tahini is just a fancy word for ground sesame seeds. It is what you add to chickpeas to make hummus.
I got creative and made my own creamy dressing using tahini as the base. Turned out pretty darn good. Hey, Madilyn was dipping carrot and daikon radish sticks in it. I must have done something right. It kinda has a Ranch dressing kind of taste to it. I bet if you add some more herbs and spices you could really make it taste like Ranch. Oh baby.
Move over mayo. You too Miracle Whip. Charli, you too.

  1. I was one of the weird kids growing up that didn’t like any of the major white condiments (mayo, sour creme, etc). I never really understood the appeal, but I know I’m pretty much alone on this. But… I LOVE tahini! It does the job EVERY time! And it brings so much to the table other than awesome flavor. Thanks for this recipe!

Penina – my husband is a condiment hater. He eats everything plain. Even his burgers!
