40 for 40 Moore Movement Challenge
I am turning 40 on June 23rd so celebrate with me and join my 40 for 40 Moore Movement Challenge! I am challenging you to move 40 miles in June, 40 minutes a day – you can walk, bike, run, go on your kids scooter – it doesn’t matter how, it just matters that you move! I will keep you accountable in a Facebook group (click here to join!) plus, any proceeds go to charity while you gain a little sanity back into your life – movement not only helps your body but your mind too!
I am teaming up with the Washington County Community Foundation to help raise money for the Close to Home Disaster and Emergency Fund to help provide grants to human service organizations serving Washington County, Pennsylvania. Plus, State Farm will match the dollars raised! I saw what my friend Megan from State Farm was doing and I just had to help. If you can help in any capacity, please visit https://www.wccf.net/
From Mother’s Day to Father’s Day (May 10-June 21, 2020), State Farm agents and family members Bob Hollick, Britney Hollick, and Megan Chicone are matching dollar for dollar, up to $15,000, in donations for the local charitable organizations below. Click on a name to make an online gift:
- Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania
- Genesis of Pittsburgh
- Greater Washington County Food Bank
- LeMoyne Community Center
- Presbyterian SeniorCare Network
- Washington Hospital Foundation
These organizations need our help.
I think of how blessed I am everyday. How lucky I am that I have my basic needs met – food, shelter, health care – SO many people who live right here in this community don’t have this luxury. Check out these stats:
$25=125 meals
So, with State Farm’s matching, $25 turns into $50 = 250 meals
I challenge you to give $40 (200 meals) in honor of your 40 minutes of exercise a day and 40 miles in June!
This time at home has been challenging at one of my only sources of sanity is moving my body! I used to go to the gym pretty much everyday but with it closed I have had to get creative with my exercise. I have learned to love being outside while I exercise. Also, I have learned that it doesn’t have to be complicated. Walking and biking are two of the easiest ways to move your body and they are so effective.
You deserve to move.
Moving your body has so many health benefits. Just walking 40 minutes a day can make a huge difference to your physical and mental health. Some benefits include:
- increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness
- reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
- improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes
- stronger bones and improved balance
- increased muscle strength and endurance
- reduced body fat
- increased positive body image
- increased patience with your spouse and kids
- increased happiness and better mood
It’s my birthday and I’ll move if I want to!
I’m walking and I am inviting you to do the same – join me in June to walk everyday and keep track of your movement and share with me and a group of others on our Facebook group (click here to join!). We will keep each other accountable all month long, share health and wellness tips, recipes and even some fun workout tips!
Let’s do this.
Typically the food bank takes about 120-130 applications a month. This April? They had over a 500% increase taking about 600 applications. Please give what you can.
Let’s move together and help others in need!
