Damn do I love pizza. I have so many fond memories of pizza. Pizza parties at school. The Pizza Hut Book It program. Remember that?! HA! Late night pizza orders to the Kappa Kappa Gamma house in college.
I totally still eat pizza. Do I order the meat-lovers supreme? No way. Unfortunately, there are no restaurants in Washington, PA (YET!!!) that serve local, organic, pastured meat. So, I typically stick with mostly veggies when eating out.
I also eat a huge salad first. I reverse the side side with the main dish. This way, I only have a couple slices of pizza instead of eating the whole darn pie. Hey, I am pregnant. Don’t challenge me.
I try to find pizzas that have loads of greens on them. This local place here in Washington, PA called The Upper Crust has the best Primavera pizza that has greens on it. Score. So good and actually decently good for you.
Remember, you don’t have to give up any of your favorite foods. Just find the best quality ingredients and watch how much you eat. That’s about it.

That is a great idea. It’s actually how I lost 150 pounds. I always ate a large salad first. A healthy one, without all the cheese, croutons, bacon bits, etc. Just a large quantity of fresh greens and raw vegetables. I’m lucky that I can eat salad without dressing too, so that helps.
Another great idea – especially for foods like pizza that can get out of control very quickly – is to make your own healthy version at home. That way you can have the whole wheat crust, as many organic vegetables as you like, and only healthy, grass fed meats as toppings. And if you can have it anytime you like, you will probably eat less at one time.
Congratulations Mary Ann on all of your weight loss! What an accomplishment. Very good idea – making it at home is always healthier!
I made a tahini salad dressing the other day that Chris and i both LOVED….. It’s a lot like the one you posed above but with some small tweaks: equal parts tahini and water, garlic, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, cumin and salt and pepper…. SOOOOOOO good!
Jen, that sounds great! Madilyn loves it too. It is the only way I can get her to eat salad!
