Madilyn is a funny child. Right now, we are going through this picky toddler stage where she likes tomatoes one day and hates them the next. One day she ate an entire red pepper and was begging me for more. This week, she pushed it aside like I was serving her dog food.
It doesn’t matter.
Hey, I am lucky she gets some good things in her belly everyday despite the pickiness. How you ask? I puree. Yep, if I mix veggies with fruit she downs it like Steelers fans down pitchers of beer at a tailgate. She gets the job done.
Will this last forever? I have no idea. I am sure there will come a time when she refuses her kale smoothies. I am sure she will taste McDonald’s fries someday. I am darn sure she will have a big ole’ ice cream sundae some summer day. I am sure that she will help me make my mom’s famous apple pie when she is older.
I don’t mind.
I don’t want her to be some sort of nerd whose mama makes her just eat steamed kale and beans every day. That’s not what I’m about. But, hey, how can I resist this smoothie face? I am living it up and enjoying it while it lasts.
Here, Madilyn is drinking a banana and kale smoothie.
Ingredients:
2 leaves of kale
1/2 frozen banana
couple pieces of pineapple chunks
sprinkle of ground flaxseed
little bit of water
Directions:
Blend.
