Why you still need prenatal vitamins plus a $50 giveaway

January 29, 2017 by Betsy 21 Comments

Every morning, I give my girls a probiotic, fish oil and a multivitamin. This morning, this routine got me thinking about how us mamas still need prenatal vitamins even after we are (most likely) done having babies.

My girls are 7 and 4 and I think our baby days are in the past. However, who knows where life will take us and there always is that chance that we could have another child someday. Deep breaths. HA! Because our food system is just not what it used to be, we do take vitamins. I feel like it has to help balance out our not-so-perfect food system and the processed foods that sneak into our daily food against my best judgment. There are so many vitamins out there so do your research before you buy. I have a few favorites. Click here to see them. I am a huge fan of Nordic Naturals, New Chapter, and Garden of Life brands. They offer amazing prenatal vitamins as well as others.

Even if pregnancy doesn't happen again for me, I still think women need those vitamins and nutrients in their daily diet. We all are stressed and run around like chickens with our heads cut off - am I right? We are moms after all! Stress and anxiety does a number on our health and our digestive system so I am a big supporter of moms incorporating more probiotics into their diets. Sure, my pumpkin pancakes are healthier than typical pancakes and you should totally try making them. However, even healthier food needs a little boost and that is where good quality vitamins come in. Plus, fish oil is something that is pretty difficult to get just with food - unless you eat a lot of great quality seafood. Living in Pittsburgh, this is not happening for me. Therefore, a vitamin is a must.

Yes, I take vitamins. I use a generic brand for women 50+ and I take calcium with D.
I would buy calcium supplements, if I were to win. I continue to search for a brand of calcium that is really doing what it says it’s doing because how do I really know if the calcium is working. I am in a bit of a quandary when it comes to this particular supplement. Thanks for the chance!

I took my Prenatal vitamins faithfully while pregnant and breastfeeding, but then I stopped. Once I found out about Plexus, I started to research and realized those great points you mentioned! They are so important these days! Now, I and my family take Plexus XFactor vitamins that contain aloe, which increases the absorption rate astronomically! And they contain methylthiolate b vitamins, because 60% of the population cannot absorb them otherwise. I love learning about this stuff! Keep the awesome info coming, Betsy! xoxoxo

I am not very good about taking my vitamins but know that I should be better. I would like to find a good probiotic for me and the kids as well as a better quality multi-vitamin. I’m going to check out your link to your favorites above!

I don’t currently take any vitamins – but I know I should probably take at least a multi-vitamin. Any suggestions?

I still take my prenatal gummies because I feel better when I do. I need a lot of calcium and vitamin D since I work in the dark as a radiologist. If I were to win the gift card, I would probably stock up on my favorites

I’m not currently taking anything. I recently tried Pure Pharma’s P3 — which is fish oil, magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin D, I think. I got it in exchange for contributing to their wellness blog. I liked them a lot, but only took them for a month, not long enough to notice a change. I also loved doTerra’s Lifelong Vitality Pack, which I took for two years. Those were the best vitamins I’ve ever taken but right now it’s a little pricey for me.

If I won the gift certificate, I’d love to try the New Chapter Prenatal Multitab, and the prenatal DHA. I’m sure I’d notice the effects since I’m not using any supplementation right now and I’m a super busy lady!

I try to take a women’s multivitamin daily but I go through phases of taking it religiously. Some of the vitamins seem a bit too large. I use to take centrum but had a hard time actually swallowing them. I switched to gummy vitamins at that point. I am interested in exploring other brands of vitamins and would do that if I were to win.

I read that all women of childbearing age should take a prenatal vitamin so that’s what I do! I also take 5000 Vitamin D recommended by my rheumatologist, CoQ10 and Niacin for help building good cholesterol (a big problem in my family!) I’d love to find a good high dose vitamin D so I don’t have to take 5 of the same thing daily!

I don’t really take a daily vitamin. I try to get good whole foods in, but I’m sure I’m not getting the
proper intake. I just hate swallowing them!

    Betsy,
Also I entered the giveaway for the Dick’s gift card, but I couldn’t get the comment to show up for some reason so I’m leaving it here.
I would spend the card on some sort of golf stuff. I began golfing last year, and HOPEFULLY spring is right around the corner. I am not really a GYM girl, but I do love being outside.

I am really bad at taking my vitamin! I usually do just a women’s multivitamin. I have sometimes added a Plexus vitamin with aloe to increase vitamin absorption

I never took any type of pills until I turned fifty and experienced an illness. During a visit, my doctor prescribed calcium with vitamin D, which I now take daily. I really dislike swallowing a big pill. I would consider other vitamins, especially if they came in gummy form.

Yes, I take vitamin D3 and a multivitamin. My body changed a lot after having two kids and now am 34 so my body seemed to have less energy. The vitamins and drinking water helps with my energy level.

The only vitamin I take every day is B-12. I take some herbal supplements – Triphala and Chyavanprash – which are both high in vitamin C. I would use the gift card to explor a new brand, possibly a different B-12 because I haven’t found one I love. Thanks for the great post!
